Traders meet PSNI and Belfast City Coucil         Wednesday, October 15, 2008

On Monday Oct 13, the Traders Forum met with the PSNI, and Belfast City Councils Community Safety Team.

Members of the DPP and The Coiln Neighbourhood Partnership were also present, as was Belfast City Coucils Anti-graffiti team.

Top of the agenda was the increase in Antisocial behaviour, graffiti removal about to take place in the Beechmount area and the possible installation of CCTV in West Belfast.

We are currently awaiting correspondence from PSNI, DRD, DSD, Safer Neighbourhood, BCC and local politicians to try and lobby for a pilot CCTV project in West Belfast and hopefully we will be able to arrange something in the coming weeks.

Traders forum meets Minister Conor Murphy.         Friday, February 01, 2008

 Conor Murphy Meeting
The Traders Forum, through Paul Maskey MLA, sent
a special invitation to DRD Minister Conor Murphy to
inform him of some of the parking and traffic flow
issues, that impact on local businesses throughout
West Belfast.
The meeting took place on Monday 28/1/2008
at the West Belfast Partnership Board offices.
Francesca Cahill said,
"Over the past few months many businesses have been
reporting issues to the West Belfast Traders' Forum.
"Those issues that seemed to be the reponsibility of the
DRD were presented to the Minister."
"We produced an informative presentation, highlighting
some of the key parking and traffic problems from
Castle Street to Lagmore and how this was impacting on
local business interests. We offered the minister some
solutions to what seem to be obvious local problems."

"This has been the beginning of the Traders' Forum
engagements with the Department. We are concsious that
we would not resolve a range of concerns in our
first engagement, but are delighted to have made a
good start and have at least established points of
contact, whereby we can continue our engagements with
the department at the highest level."

The minister emphasised the importance of groups such
as the West Belfast Traders' Forum, which can act as a
collective voice for smaller businesses. He reassured
those attending the meeting that his department would
work through the list of concerns raised at the
meeting. He also pointed that by opening dailogue with
his department in such a way was the best way forward
for everybody concerned.
